LAFAYETTE COUNTY- is south of Iowa County and west of Green County. Its cities and villages were born of lead mining settlements from the 1800s. Blessed with fertile soil, farming is currently the primary enterprise in the county. For tourist information, see LaFayetteCounty.org.
BLANCHARDVILLE- is a small farming community located on the Pecatonica River in far southeast Iowa and northeast LaFayette Counties. It is 18 miles southwest of Mt. Horeb along rural, two lane HWY 78. It is one of the inexpensive housing areas that can be found just outside Dane County. The village site has information on local businesses, accommodations, events (including the annual music and arts festival), and local organizations such as the Blanchardville Bullets baseball team, the Film Society, and the Historical Society.
ARGYLE- is located just south of Blanchardville, 40 miles from Madison. With a population of over 800, it is also along the Pecatonica River, which offers fishing and boating for the outdoor enthusiast. The Village website offers information on local history, events, schools, and more.
Nearby Yellowstone Lake State Park offers boating, swimming, hiking, and camping. Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake in southwestern Wisconsin, at 450 acres.
